Tookie’s Grill

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I alluded to this in my previous post about Tookie’s, and all I’ve got to say is believe the hype. They have an amazing chicken salad sandwich. Personally i like my chicken salad uniform throughout instead of large chunks of chicken. Tookie’s chicken salad is exactly that, smooth chopped up chicken with a few added ingredients. The sandwich includes a generous portion of chicken salad along with lettuce and tomato on toasted or plain white or wheat bread. Personally, this is an easy choice for me, it’s quick tasty and convenient. If you’re around seaboard stop by and try this out.

Riviera

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Riviera is back open for lunch! When i heard this I had to run down there and try it out. I stared with something that’s always good, their Gazpacho. The menu for lunch is basically new so i tried the Muffaletta . This was an excellent sandwich and represents the freshness I’ve come to expect from Riviera. This is no small sandwich. They start with a fresh roll that’s soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Olive tapanade, salami, capicola, gruyere and provolone are wrapped inside. There’s no skimping here, the sandwich was thick, especially if you like cheese (as i do). It comes with a choice of sides, I went with the fresh salad but fries are an option. I am excited Riveria is open for lunch again, their menu contains a wide range of meals and I can’t wait to go back.

Tookie’s Grill

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Tookie’s Grill recently opened in Seaboard Station and I decided to give them a try for lunch. Two things really impressed me about this meal. The first was the quality in the preparation of the food. I had the steak and cheese, a fairly simple thing to make. This one was reasonably priced, and came with everything I wanted. What I like about it was that they toasted the bun. I’m guessing this isn’t done on most philly cheesesteaks, but I’ll say I’m a fan. It was a simple thing that notched it up in my book.

The second part that impressed me was the great service. During the course of my meal I had no less than 3 different people ask me if everything was ok. These a couple were working the grill but when they slowed down they stepped away and made sure the customers at the bar were good. This little thing shows me that the group there really cares about the customer experience.

I’m definitely going back, look for some other reviews soon. And yes, this is the place with the chicken salad :)

Wild Ginger Cafe

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I’ve been here for lunch a few times and I am never disappointed. I don’t usually mention money with my dining experiences but I feel I have to with this one. A great meal for under $10. While that is by no means the most impressive part of my meal today I thought I’d get it out of the way…On with the food!

Today’s lunch was Wild Ginger’s version of sesame chicken. I honestly don’t remember what they called it, but I believe it was L13 or L14 on the menu. Lunch combos start with a small salad or soup. I had the salad because it was fairly hot outside. It was fresh and the ginger dressing was not to overpowering. The main course consisted of rice and the chicken mixed with vegetables. There are a lot of things to like about this meal. I liked the chicken was tender, good quality and not over-breaded. The sauce was unlike most heavy sesame chicken’s you’ll find in the mall. It wasn’t too sweet or thick. I also liked the amount of chicken vs. vegetables. There wasn’t too much of either and I didn’t feel like they relied to heavy on the rice. All in all, I’d give this experience a thumbs up and will be back.

Sushi Tsuni

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Tsuni’s is a small sushi place down Hillsborough street, right past NC State campus. It has long been a favorite place for me to get some of the best sushi around. Lunch on wed was not exception. I think they have some of the best sushi in terms of freshness and portion. I love the fact that when you get something like salmon or tuna you can’t see the rice that’s under the fish. Remember that when ordering, these make for a mouthful. My favorite roll by far is the Firecracker. Normally ordered it’s a spicy tuna roll topped with sarachi and what i like to call wasabi gravy. The gravy is essentially wasabi and soy mixed to a gravy like consistency. If you feel like to tempting fate, put a heat percentage above 100% beside the name when you order, but trust me, you need to love wasabi.

You can’t go wrong with sushi here.
