Dos Taquitos Centro

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Dos Taquitos Centro updated their menu since the last time I was there. I love this, since it gives me the opportunity to try something new. I started with the Chorizo con Queso. This i traditional cheese dip with fresh chips, the twist is the spicy sausage that crumbled up in the dip. It adds a different type of heat to a starter that is already good.

My main entree was also something new on the menu Mole Manchamanteles. I got this dish with chicken (it’s also available with grass-fed pork). One of the traditional moles, this dish is packed with fresh fruits, nuts and spices that blend well together. Everything is slow cooked and the sauce bursts with flavor. I highly recommend this one, each part of the dish complemented each other. I especially enjoyed the spices in the sauce that were then toned down by the fruit.

Where to park:
Parking at Dos Taquitos Centro is easy. They’re located on the west side of S Wilmington Str. You’ve got your choice of on street parking or in one of the public decks that are very close. There is a public parking deck about 100 yards south on the same side, there is also another parking deck a little further south across the street.

Hard Times

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I grabbed a quick lunch on a cold afternoon this past week at Hard Times. One of the easiest and best things they’ve got going is their chili. Get it 3-way (noodles, chili, cheese), 4-way (noodles, chili, cheese, onions) and 5-way (noodles, chili, cheese, onions, beans). I usually go with a 4-way cincinatti. I love cincinatti style chili. It’s almost soupy, with a hint of chocolate and cinnamon. I think the almost sweetness holds up very well to a nice hot sauce and then you’ve got the best of both worlds.

Riviera

I enjoyed another lunch at Riviera this afternoon. My company had a quarterly meeting there. The service was great and everyone enojoyed the food. I got to try the lunch serving of the lamb. Three brochettes are served over risotto. Both items were excellent, I’ve described the lamb before, grilled and tender on the inside. The rice enhanced the dish, i believe it was some sort of curry mixed with other spices. I’ll have this again.

518 West

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

518 West recently updated their menu, adding quite a few new options. Some of the new salads and pastas look amazin. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak sandwich. It was fairly large, came on a fluffy sub roll with provolone cheese and grilled onions. I added some horseradish for a little spice. This sandwich coupled with one of their fresh side salads makes an enjoyable meal I’m sure to enjoy over and over.

Dos Taquitos

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Dos Taquitos Centro opened recently downtown. I’ve been to their Creedmoor location and expected excellent food. You can of course assume I the food was excellent (since i’m writing this post). I decided to try out lunch. I wanted to try a few things so I had the Dos Taco’s Tacos with steak and the Chips with Queso. Wow, this was heads and shoulders above other offerings in the area. The tacos dish came with 2 soft tacos and my choice of rice beans or salad (I chose the beans) The steak in the tacos was tender and juicy, the pico de gallo, avocado and cheese were all top quality and added a lot of flavor to the tacos. I believe the beans are actually refried black beans. They’re served in a small edible tostada bowl sprinked with cheese, and excellent choice I think. The chips and queso did not disappoint either. The order comes with plenty of queso and the chips are tasty unto themselves.

It excites me to see new options come to downtown. I especially like that they are serving lunch which provides me with another venue to try out during the day. I’m definitely going to stop by for dinner soon.
