Fins

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I’ll start with my description of the sashimi available at Fins. The Best in Raleigh. While there are many very good options around, I believe that this is hands down the best available. Generally the chef will have a couple varieties of tuna, yellow tail, salmon and sometimes snapper. I’ve had them all, and I’d put them against anything anywhere.

Next came the steak. Yes, I know what you’re thinking “steak at a fish place” but this does not disappoint. First off, it’s huge, literally, a great cut and super thick, go medium rare like they suggest and you wont go wrong, crispy grilled on the outside warm and tender on the inside. It sits atop a sliced potato mix and is garnished with a medley of mushroom. A sweet reduction drizzled around the plate completes presentation. You wont go wrong here.

Wow, it’s been a while

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Hello,

So it’s been a while since my last post. It’s summer so there have been a lot of things going on. But i’m back, look for some new info and possibly new authors on the site in the near future.

In other news, there are a lot of events and openings coming up in downtown raleigh in the very near future. Look for the BBQ festival and several well known restaurants opening up downtown locations soo. (well known in raleigh at least, think sushi and mexican)

It’s the summer but i’ll assure you that restaurateurs aren’t sitting around. I’ve had some great food so far and it’s only going to get better. Some things i’ve had but haven’t written about include the following:
seared bluefin with wasabi crust
chilled cucumber soup
edamame and crab salad
cajun peel-and-eat shrimp
wild-boar carnitas
grilled lamb with mint tzatiki

So go out, try new things and let us know what to have.
